Enel Green Power has begun construction on a new wind farm, in the municipalities of Barile and Venosa, near Potenza, in the region of Basilicata.
With a total installed capacity of 8 MW, the Barile Venosa plant will be able to generate more than 22 GWh per year once fully up and running, equivalent to the energy needs of around 1,800 Italian households and thereby avoiding the emission of nearly 9,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
EGP will be investing a total of more than 11 million euros to construct the Barile Venosa plant.
The plant will be built close to the existing Potenza-Pietragalla wind farm, already operating since 2012. Potenza-Pietragalla has an installed capacity of 18 MW and is capable of producing more than 39 million KWh each year.
The Barile Venosa plant will benefit from an incentivized tariff over the next 20 years. EGP was awarded the tariff through its participation in the dedicated tender held in 2014.
